Sölden - Gaislachkogelbahn Mittelstation
🇦🇹 Tyrol · Austria — Altitude 2170 m
This camera sits at the mid-station of the Gaislachkogel cable car, roughly 2,170 metres above sea level above the Sölden ski area in the Ötztal Alps. It is useful for seeing how the high Tyrolean slopes look before you travel, including cloud cover and snow conditions.
Sölden is a village in the Ötztal valley of western Tyrol, Austria, best known as a major alpine ski resort and the gateway to the glaciers of the Ötztal Alps. The Gaislachkogel is one of the peaks that the lift system climbs, giving access to wide bowls, rocky ridges and high pastures. The valley floor and the mountains around it form a dramatic contrast, with forest and meadows below and bare rock and snow above.
The camera is aimed at the mountain station environment, so what you see depends on the view from the cable car infrastructure. Depending on the angle, you may notice clear skies, drifting clouds or weather moving over the peaks. Mornings often bring the clearest air, while afternoons can build cloud over the summits. Winter views are typically dominated by snow, while summer shows greener slopes and hikers.
Sölden has a cool alpine climate, with snow typically from late autumn into spring and warm, relatively short summers. Winter is the main season for skiing, and summer is popular for hiking and mountain walks. Nearby cameras on VizCams cover Gaislachkogl, Sölden village at 1,377 metres, Seekogl and Hochsölden, which help you compare conditions at different heights.
