Kalsertal - Vue vers le nord sur le Großglockner
🇦🇹 Tyrol · Austria — Altitude 1400 m
This camera looks north across the Kalsertal valley toward the Großglockner, the highest peak in Austria. It is useful for anyone wondering how clear the mountains are right now, or whether cloud is sitting on the summit before a hike or drive. The stream is embedded from its owner, with a link back to the original source.
Kalsertal lies in East Tyrol, in the Hohe Tauern range of the Austrian Alps, at roughly 1,400 metres above sea level. The valley is known as the gateway to the Großglockner High Alpine Road and the national park around it. The Großglockner, at about 3,798 metres, dominates the skyline and is the main reason visitors come to this part of Tyrol. Villages are small, with meadows, forest and pastures climbing toward glaciers and rock faces.
The camera is aimed at the mountain range to the north, so the main subject is the high peaks and the sky above them. Depending on the view, you may notice snow lingering on the summits, cloud drifting over the ridges or the light changing across the rock through the day. Mornings often bring the cleanest outlines, while late afternoon can add warm tones to the slopes. Watching during changing weather is especially rewarding.
The Alps here have a cool mountain climate, with snow often present from late autumn into spring. Summer and early autumn are generally the most comfortable months for walking and driving the high road, though weather can change quickly at altitude. Other cameras nearby include views from Hopfgarten, Kals, the Adlerlounge at Kals am Großglockner and Matrei in Osttirol, which together give a wider picture of the region.
