This live stream shows Louvain-la-Neuve, a planned university town in Walloon Brabant. Watch it to get a sense of the town's pace and weather before you visit, or simply to see what the streets look like today. The player below runs in HD and links to the original source.
Louvain-la-Neuve was created in the 1970s when the Catholic University of Louvain moved its French-speaking faculties out of the older city of Leuven. Its layout is planned, with a pedestrian centre, wide open squares, modern campus buildings and a large lake-side park. The town sits on a gentle plateau in the Brabant countryside, with farmland and woods only a short distance away, and it has a young, lively character shaped by students.
The view is most lively during the academic year, especially on weekday mornings and at midday when students move between lectures, and in the late afternoon when the cafΓ©s fill up. Outside term time the streets are calmer and the scene is quieter. Daylight hours give the clearest picture, and cloudy Belgian skies are common, so the light can change quickly. Our description is based on the camera's title and location rather than on a detailed view of every frame.
Belgium has a temperate maritime climate, with mild summers, cool winters and rain possible in any season, so a light jacket is useful year round. Late spring and early autumn are often the most pleasant times to walk the campus and the lakeside. Louvain-la-Neuve is about an hour by road from Brussels. Other cameras nearby include Louvain (about 24 km) and Namur (about 23 km), which are useful for comparing conditions across the region.
