Knocke-Heist - ooievaarstoren Zwin Natuur Park
🇧🇪 West Flanders · Belgium — Altitude 10 m
This camera watches the stork tower at the edge of Zwin Nature Park, on the Belgian coast near the Dutch border. It is a good way to see the open tidal landscape and the conditions over the coast before you set out on foot or by bike.
Knokke-Heist is a seaside municipality on the West Flanders coast, known for its wide sandy beaches, dunes and villas. The Zwin is a former sea inlet that silted up over the centuries and is now a protected nature area of salt marsh, mudflats and reed beds. It lies on a major route for migrating birds, and the tower stands among the wetlands that make the area so distinctive.
The view is most interesting in the morning and late afternoon, when low light brings out the marsh and the water channels. Changes in the tide alter the landscape considerably, so the same view can look very different within a few hours. Bird activity is strongest in spring and autumn during migration, though the exact view depends on the weather and season.
The Belgian coast has a mild maritime climate, with cool, breezy summers and relatively mild winters. Late spring and early autumn are often the most pleasant times for walking. Nearby you will find the Surfers Paradise and Office du Tourisme cameras in Knokke, as well as the Zeedijk camera in Zeebrugge, which help you judge conditions along the coast.
