This live camera looks out over Whistler, the mountain resort town in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia. It is useful for checking how the peaks and village look right now, and whether cloud, snow or sunshine is settling over the valley before you travel.
Whistler sits in the Coast Mountains about two hours north of Vancouver, at around 1,840 metres above sea level. The town grew up around two linked mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb, and is best known as a year-round destination for skiing, hiking and mountain biking. Forested valleys, glacier-fed lakes and jagged peaks surround the village, giving it a strong alpine character.
Conditions change quickly in the mountains, so the view is most informative in the morning, when clear skies are most common, and in the late afternoon, when low sun lights the slopes. In winter, fresh snowfall and cloud movement are the main things to follow. In summer, the greenery of the valley and the high peaks are more visible. Depending on the angle at any moment, you may see the village, the slopes or the surrounding ridges.
The region has a mild, wet maritime climate at lower elevations, but the higher terrain is much colder and receives heavy snow in winter. Layers and waterproof clothing are sensible year-round. Whistler is about a two-hour drive from Vancouver, and the Sea to Sky Highway is the usual route. Nearby cameras on VizCams include Seymour Resort and the Deep Cove view near Vancouver.
