About El Gouna
El Gouna lies about 25 kilometres north of Hurghada in the Red Sea Governorate. It was developed from the 1990s as a planned resort town on a series of man-made lagoons and islands, linked by bridges and waterways. It is best known as a centre for watersports, especially kitesurfing and windsurfing, and the desert hills and clear, shallow sea shape its character. The town is quieter and more orderly than many coastal resorts in the area.
