This live camera looks out over Koli, a national park hill landscape in eastern Finland known for its ridges, lakes and pine forest. Watch it to check conditions across the fells and see how the seasons change the scenery from one day to the next.
Koli rises to about 300 metres above the surrounding lake plateau of North Karelia, a region of forests and water that inspired many Finnish writers and painters. The hills are part of Koli National Park, and they are often described as the country's most famous viewpoint over the lakes. The landscape is quiet, with birch and spruce covering the slopes and open water stretching toward the horizon.
Depending on the view, you may see forest canopy, the lake below, changing light and cloud movement across the ridge. Mornings and evenings tend to be the most atmospheric, when low sun or mist shapes the water. In autumn the birches turn gold and in winter snow changes the whole picture, so the feed looks very different across the year.
The climate is cold and continental, with warm summers and long, snowy winters, so late spring to early autumn suits walking and sightseeing best. The region is served by roads from Joensuu and Lieksa. Other cameras in the area include the Lieksa hotel view about one kilometre away, the Kontiolahti Biathlon Park and a city view in Kuopio, which help you compare conditions across the region.
