Königswinter - Drachenfels
🇩🇪 North Rhine-Westphalia · Germany
This live camera looks toward the Drachenfels, the wooded hill that rises above the town of Königswinter on the Rhine. The stream shows the view as it is now, so you can check whether the hill is clear before planning a trip. The page also shows local time and the weather forecast for the area.
The Drachenfels is one of the best known hills of the Siebengebirge, a group of volcanic peaks south of Bonn in North Rhine-Westphalia. Its name refers to the dragon legend of the Rhine, and the ruins of a medieval castle stand near the summit. Königswinter lies at its foot on the river, where vineyards and forest meet the water. The landscape is green and rolling, with the Rhine as the main feature below.
The view is most interesting on clear days, when the river, the valley and the hills around it are easy to make out. Morning light often gives the sharpest outlines, while late afternoon brings warmer tones to the vineyards. Autumn colours in the surrounding forest can be striking. Weather and haze change the view considerably, so the live stream is the best guide to conditions at this moment.
The region has a mild temperate climate, with cool winters and warm summers. Spring and early autumn are popular for walking and visiting the hill. Königswinter is reachable by train and boat along the Rhine, and a cog railway climbs the Drachenfels from the town. Nearby cameras in Bonn and Cologne offer other views of the Rhine region if you want to compare conditions.
