Mont Ainos - Parking du parc national

🇬🇷 Ionian Islands · Greece — Altitude 1500 m

Local time UTC+2Checked 0 viewsHDMountains

This camera looks out from the car park of the Mont Ainos national park, high on the mountain above the centre of Kefalonia. It is a useful place to check the mountain conditions and the sky before deciding whether to make the climb. The live stream below updates while you watch.

About Mont Ainos

Mont Ainos is the highest mountain on Kefalonia, the largest of the Ionian Islands off Greece's western coast. Its upper slopes are protected as a national park and are covered with forests of Greek fir, a tree found in few other places. The mountain rises well above the surrounding olive groves and villages, so the air is noticeably cooler than at the coast. Its wooded ridges and open clearings make it a very different landscape from the sea-facing shores below.

What you can watch

The camera shows the park car park at altitude, so what you see depends on the view from the site and on the weather. On clear days you may see the surrounding ridges and parts of the island stretching out below. Clouds often gather over the peaks in the afternoon, and watching them build can tell you a lot about conditions higher up. Early morning tends to bring the clearest air, while mist or low cloud can cover the summit for much of the day.

Climate and getting around

Summers on the island are hot and dry at sea level, but the mountain stays cooler and is often a relief from the heat. Spring and autumn are good times for walking, and winter can bring snow to the higher slopes. Check the weather block on this page before travelling, as roads up the mountain can be affected by fog or snow. Nearby on VizCams you can open the Argostoli harbour camera, about 15 km away, to compare conditions at sea level.
