This live camera looks out from Sorrento toward Mount Vesuvius, the volcano that dominates the Bay of Naples. It is a useful way to check how the mountain and the bay look right now before planning a day trip or a walk along the coast.
Sorrento sits on a cliff edge at the southern side of the Bay of Naples, facing the volcano across the water. The town is known for its lemon groves, its historic centre and its views over the sea. Vesuvius, which last erupted in 1944, rises to the east of the bay and shapes the light, haze and colours of the whole coastline.
Depending on the view, you may see the bay, the outline of the volcano and the sky above it. Clear mornings tend to give the sharpest view of the mountain, while late afternoon light often warms the slopes. Haze and cloud can hide the summit for hours, so the live feed is most useful for checking visibility before you set out.
Sorrento has mild winters and warm, dry summers, and spring and autumn are often the most comfortable seasons for walking. Nearby places on the Sorrento peninsula, including Vico Equense and Amalfi, are reachable by road or ferry. Capri lies a short boat ride away, and Torre del Greco is on the same bay.
Before heading to a viewpoint, check the live picture here for visibility and the local weather block for wind and rain. Conditions over the bay can change quickly, especially in the afternoon.
