Ponte di Legno
๐ฎ๐น Lombardy ยท Italy โ Altitude 1258 m
This live camera looks out over Ponte di Legno, a mountain village in the Camonica valley of Lombardy at about 1,258 metres. It is a good way to check how the high Alpine weather is developing before planning a day in the hills. The page also shows local time, current conditions and a short forecast.
Ponte di Legno sits at the head of the Val Camonica, close to the border with Trentino, where the valley narrows between steep forested slopes and the glaciated peaks of the Adamello group. It has long been a resort for hikers, skiers and summer visitors, and its old centre still reflects its origins as a crossroads for mountain traders. The air is cool and clear even in midsummer, and the surrounding larches and pines give the village a distinctly alpine character.
The stream is best for judging the sky and cloud over the valley. Mornings often bring clear air and sharp light on the ridges, while afternoons can build cumulus clouds that drift over the peaks. Depending on the view, you may also see snow cover on the higher slopes during winter, or the green of meadows in late spring and summer. Checking before you travel tells you whether the summits are visible.
The climate is alpine, with cold snowy winters and mild summers. Late June to September suits walking and cycling, while December to March is the season for skiing on the nearby slopes. The Tonale pass is only a few kilometres away and makes a convenient link to other cameras in the area, including the Passo del Tonale bike park and the cross-country trails of Santa Caterina Valfurva.
