L’Etna: il vulcano più grande d’Europa e tra i più attivi del mondo - Etna
🇮🇹 Sicily · Italy
This live stream follows Mount Etna, the largest volcano in Europe and one of the most active on Earth. It is a useful window for anyone curious about the summit's activity, the shape of the mountain and the changing sky above eastern Sicily. Check the live view below before planning a visit.
Mount Etna rises above the east coast of Sicily near Catania and dominates the landscape for many kilometres around it. Its slopes hold vineyards, lava fields, pine and oak woodland, and small towns built on older flows. The volcano is known for frequent eruptions of varying strength, and its summit craters change shape over time. Much of the mountain is protected within a national park, and the area is valued for its geology as much as its scenery.
Depending on the view, you may see the summit area, clouds moving over the crater, or the upper slopes catching morning and evening light. Clear mornings tend to give the most open view, while afternoon cloud often builds around the peak. Eruptive activity, when it happens, is usually most visible after dark. Because conditions change quickly at altitude, the live stream is the best way to judge what the mountain looks like at the moment.
The lower slopes have a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot, dry summers, while the upper mountain can be cold, windy and snowy in winter. Spring and autumn are often the most comfortable seasons for visiting. Catania airport and the city are the usual starting points, and guided tours and cable car routes operate on the mountain depending on the season. Nearby cameras on this site include other views of Etna and the Centuripe area.
