This live camera looks out from the Haeuslerhof area of Villabassa towards the south-east, over the upper Pustertal valley in the Dolomites foothills. It is a useful way to check how the valley and surrounding peaks look before you plan a day in the area.
Niederdorf, known in Italian as Villabassa, sits at about 1330 metres in the Pustertal, the broad valley that runs east from Brunico towards Austria. The village is a traditional Tyrolean settlement where German is widely spoken, and it is surrounded by forested slopes, meadows and the rugged limestone of the Dolomites. The valley is shaped by the Rienz river and has long been a route between Italy and the north.
The camera is set on a mountain-side viewpoint, so the view depends on the season and the weather. Depending on conditions, you may see green pastures and village rooftops in summer, or snow-covered slopes in winter. Clear mornings tend to give the sharpest view of the peaks, while afternoon cloud often builds over the higher ridges. Check the live picture and the local weather block together to judge visibility.
Summers are mild and pleasant for walking, with cool evenings because of the altitude. Winters are cold and snowy, and the area is popular with skiers and cross-country enthusiasts. Nearby cameras include Monguelfo, Tesido and Pichl in the Gsiesertal, and Taisten in the Val Pusteria, which give you more views of the valley and its side valleys.
