This live camera looks out over Val di Luce, a mountain valley in the Tuscan Apennines at about 1,497 metres. It is useful for checking snow, cloud and visibility in the high country before you travel. The page also shows local time and the weather forecast for the area.
Val di Luce lies in the northern Apennines of Tuscany, close to the border with Emilia-Romagna. The landscape is forested slopes, open pastures and rounded ridges, typical of the mountain range that runs down the middle of Italy. It is a quieter, greener side of Tuscany, far from the cities and vineyards most visitors associate with the region.
The view is set in the mountains, so conditions change quickly. In winter you may see snow cover and clear or misty skies, while summer brings green slopes and afternoon cloud building over the peaks. Early morning often gives the clearest air, and the stream can be checked at any hour to see how the weather is moving in.
The mountains here are best visited from late spring to early autumn for walking, and in winter for snow sports, when the nearby ski area of Abetone is active. Nearby cameras on VizCams include Abetone, Versurone in Fiumalbo, the Burigone refuge and San Pellegrino in Alpe in Garfagnana, so you can compare conditions across the range.
