About the place
Shymbulak sits on the northern slopes of the Zailiyskiy Alatau range, the northern edge of the Tien Shan, at roughly 2,260 metres. The city of Almaty lies at the foot of the mountains, and the resort is reached by a cable car from the lower station. The landscape is steep, forested in its lower parts and bare and rocky higher up, which gives the resort its dramatic character.
