🇰🇬 Issyk-Kul Region · Kyrgyzstan — Altitude 1630 m
This live camera looks out over Tyup, a small town on the northern shore of Issyk-Kul, one of the largest high-altitude lakes in the world. It is a useful way to get a sense of the lake and the mountain air before you travel, or simply to watch conditions change through the day.
Tyup sits at roughly 1,630 metres above sea level on the northern side of Issyk-Kul, a deep lake ringed by the Tian Shan mountains. The lake never freezes, which keeps its shoreline milder than the surrounding highlands. Tyup is a quiet district centre, known more for its open landscape, orchards and views across the water than for large attractions, and its character changes noticeably with the seasons.
The stream is worth checking in daylight, when mountain light and cloud movement are easiest to read over the lake and surrounding slopes. Mornings are often calm, while afternoons can bring wind and cloud build-up over the peaks. Depending on the view you may see water conditions, changing weather and the rhythm of local traffic. Clear days give the sharpest picture of the distant ridges.
Summers in the area are warm and dry, with cooler evenings thanks to the altitude, and autumn is often the most settled season for clear skies. Winters are cold, though the lake keeps the nearby shore less harsh than inland valleys. Karakol, Ysyk Kol and Karkara are the nearest cameras on this site and give a broader picture of the region, which is best reached by road from Bishkek and the larger towns along the lake.
