This live stream follows a peregrine falcon nest in Aalsmeer, a town on the edge of the Westeinderplassen lakes south-west of Amsterdam. The right-hand nest camera is a good way to see the birds without disturbing them, whether you are a bird lover or simply curious about wildlife close to a busy region.
Aalsmeer lies in the North Holland lowlands, where flat polder land, drainage ditches and open water shape the landscape. The town is best known internationally for its flower auction, one of the largest of its kind in the world, and it sits close to the Westeinderplassen, a chain of shallow lakes popular with boaters and anglers. The land here is very low, a few metres below sea level, so water and wind define much of daily life.
The stream shows a peregrine falcon nest, so the most interesting moments tend to be when adults arrive with prey, change over at the nest, or tend to their young during the breeding season. Activity varies with the time of day and with weather, and quiet periods are normal. Keep in mind that the picture depends on the owner of the stream, and the live view is shown as it is provided.
The Dutch climate is mild and often cloudy, with cool winters and fairly warm summers, and spring is usually the most pleasant season to visit the lakes. If you are interested in the same region, the Westeinderplassen camera is only about one kilometre away, and cameras in Mijdrecht and Amsterdam are also listed on this page.
