About Vélez-Málaga
Vélez-Málaga sits at the foot of the Sierra de Almijara, where the Vélez river reaches the coastal plain. It has a long history under Moorish and Christian rule, reflected in its old quarter and its castle on the hill above the town. The surrounding Axarquía is known for terraced slopes of vines, almond and olive trees, and for the sweet Moscatel wine made in the region. The town keeps a working, local character rather than a resort feel.
