Stoos - Fronalpstock
🇨🇭 Schwyz · Switzerland
This live camera looks out from the Fronalpstock area above Stoos, a car-free village in the canton of Schwyz. It is useful for judging whether the mountain is clear before a walk, a ride up the cable car or a day trip from Lucerne or Zurich. The live player is embedded below, with local time and weather shown alongside it.
Stoos sits on a sunny terrace high above the Muotatal valley, reached by road only from the Muotathal side and by cable car from Schwyz-Ibergeregg. The Fronalpstock rises above it as a broad grassy summit with long views over the Alpine chain, Lake Lucerne and the Glarus Alps. Traditional wooden chalets and alpine pastures give the area a quiet, rural character that changes noticeably from season to season.
The camera is most rewarding in the early morning, when mist often lies in the valleys and the peaks catch the first light, and in the late afternoon when shadows lengthen across the meadows. Depending on the view, you may see cloud moving over the ridges, snow cover in winter or the green of summer pastures. Clear spells after a front has passed are often the best moments to look, since cloud can drop quickly over the summit.
Winters are cold with reliable snow, and summers are mild, making late spring to early autumn the most popular time for hiking. Check the weather block on this page before setting out, as conditions on the ridge can differ from the village. Other cameras nearby include Stoos Dorf, which shows the village itself, and the Emmetten and Klewenalp views a short distance away across the mountains.
