This camera watches the high Alpine setting above Finhaut, a village in the Trient valley of Valais. Check the live feed to see how mountain light and cloud move over the valley before you travel or plan a walk.
Finhaut sits at around 1,930 metres in the canton of Valais, in southwestern Switzerland. It lies in the Trient valley, a steep and green corridor between the Mont Blanc massif and the Valais Alps. The Emosson reservoir, reached by a dam road and cable links from the valley, is one of the area's best-known features and gives the region its character of water, rock and wide alpine horizons.
Mountain cameras like this one show the shifting weather most clearly. Morning often brings clear air and sharp outlines on the ridges, while afternoon clouds can build quickly and drift through the valley. Sunset is a popular time to watch, when light shifts across the peaks. Snow cover depends heavily on the season, so the view can change from green slopes to white in a few weeks.
Summers are mild and well suited to hiking, while winters are cold with plenty of snow. Late June to September is generally the easiest period for walking and exploring. Martigny, about 8 km away, is the main transport hub for the wider region, and nearby cameras at Le Chatelard, Trient and Les Marécottes show other parts of the same valley system.
