This live stream looks out over Loch Arkaig, a long freshwater loch in the western Highlands of Scotland. It is a good place to check how the water and surrounding woodland look before planning a walk or a drive along the loch road. The live player, local time and forecast on this page update while you watch.
Loch Arkaig lies in the Lochaber area of the Highlands, a long narrow loch set among steep hills and native woodland. The surroundings are known for their quiet, remote character and for the mix of water, mountain and forest that defines much of western Scotland. The loch sits at around 147 metres above sea level, and the area is part of the wider Great Glen region.
The camera is part of a nature-focused collection, so the view is most likely to reward patience: birdlife on and above the water, changing light on the loch, and the movement of trees with the weather. Early mornings and calm days tend to give the clearest water surface. Conditions in the Highlands change quickly, so cloud and rain can hide the hills at short notice, and the picture may be darker in winter evenings.
The western Highlands are wet and mild for their latitude, with cool summers and autumn and winter rain being common. Late spring and early summer are often the most settled periods for walking. Fort William is the nearest sizeable town, roughly sixteen kilometres away, and the Corran and Ballachulish camera points are also in the area for comparison of conditions across the region.
