This live feed looks out over Les Mielles on the north-west coast of Jersey, the Channel Island that sits closer to France than to England. Open it to check how the coast looks right now and whether conditions are calm or breezy before a walk or a drive.
Les Mielles is a stretch of flat, sandy shoreline on the western side of Jersey, part of the parish of St Ouen. The island is known for its mild maritime climate, big tidal ranges and a strong sense of its own history and culture. The coast here is open and wide, so the sky and sea tend to dominate the scene. Tides change the beach dramatically over a day, exposing broad expanses of sand at low water.
Because the view is coastal, the most interesting moments are often around high and low tide, when the water line shifts sharply, and in the early morning or late afternoon, when the light is low and warm. Cloud and wind are easy to read from the feed, and changes in sea colour can hint at the weather to come. Weather in the Channel Islands can shift quickly, so a quick check before heading out is worthwhile. Depending on the view at any moment, you may see walkers, surfers or simply the open horizon.
Jersey has a temperate climate with mild winters and cool summers, and the shoulder seasons of late spring and early autumn are often the most pleasant for coastal walks. Les Mielles is within easy reach of other island viewpoints, and you can compare conditions on the nearby cameras at Saint Pierre, about 3 km away, and Saint Aubin, about 4 km away. Those views are useful if you want to see how a different part of the island looks at the same time.
