This live camera looks out over Fairbanks, the largest city in Alaska's Interior. It is a useful way to check how the town looks right now, whether that is snow, fog or clear cold air. The page also shows local time and the forecast so you can plan around what you see.
Fairbanks sits on the Tanana River in the Interior of Alaska, roughly 130 kilometres south of the Arctic Circle. The city grew around gold mining and today is a base for the University of Alaska Fairbanks, military installations and the region's trade. Surrounding hills, spruce and birch forest and wide river valleys shape the landscape, and the town is known as a gateway to the aurora and to the wilderness further north.
The view is the live feed from a local source, so its content changes with the seasons and the hour. In winter, watch for low sun, long shadows and the glow of street lights in the dark hours. In summer the light lasts almost all night, and the feed may show green foliage and long evenings. Check the weather block on this page alongside the picture to understand visibility and snow conditions.
Fairbanks has a subarctic climate with very cold winters, often below minus twenty degrees Celsius, and warm, short summers. The best time to visit for daylight and mild temperatures is June to August, while the aurora is most often seen from late August to April on clear nights. Two other cameras in the wider Fairbanks area are listed on this page for comparison.
