This live camera looks out over the June Mountain ski area near June Lake in the Eastern Sierra of California. It is a useful window onto mountain conditions, whether you are planning a ski day, a summer hike or simply curious about this high alpine valley.
June Lake is a small resort village on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada, at roughly 2,600 metres above sea level. The lake sits in a glacier-carved basin with steep granite ridges rising above it. June Mountain is a ski area known for its uncrowded slopes and wide views across the Owens Valley toward the White Mountains. The town itself is quiet and compact, with cabins, lodges and small shops set against the peaks.
The camera is most worth checking in winter, when fresh snow and clear skies show the slopes at their best, and in early morning when light is low and shadows are long. Depending on the view, you may see skiers, lift activity, cloud moving over the ridges or the lake surface. Weather changes quickly at this altitude, so a quick look before you leave can tell you whether the upper mountain is visible.
Winters are cold and snowy, and summers are mild and dry with strong sun, so temperatures can differ sharply between the lake and the summit. Late spring and early autumn are often calm, though some roads and lifts may have limited hours. Nearby, the Mammoth Lakes cameras, including the Main Lodge Woolly Cam and Eagle Lodge, cover the larger Mammoth Mountain resort about 14 to 16 kilometres away.
