About Shelter Island
Shelter Island sits just off the Point Loma peninsula on the western side of San Diego Bay. It was created largely from dredged material in the early twentieth century and today is a marina and recreation area with yacht clubs, hotels and waterfront parks. The setting is sheltered and calm compared with the open ocean, which is why the island has long been a base for sailing and small craft.
