This live camera looks out over Lake Shastina, a reservoir in the mountains of northern California. It is useful for anyone wanting to see the lake's current state before planning a trip, or simply to follow the mountain weather from a distance. The live player below is provided by the camera's owner.
About the lake and its setting
Lake Shastina lies in Siskiyou County, in the foothills south of Mount Shasta, at roughly 890 metres above sea level. It was created by damming a valley, and its shoreline is framed by pine and oak woodland with open grassland around it. The area is quiet and rural, shaped by farming, ranching and the wide volcanic landscape that rises above the valley.
What the camera shows and when to watch
Because the title refers to the lake itself, the view is most likely centred on open water and the surrounding hills, though the exact framing may vary. Watching in the early morning can reveal mist lying on the water, while late afternoon light often brings out the colours of the slopes. Changes in cloud cover and snow on the high peaks can be especially striking in winter and spring.
Climate and getting around
The region has hot, dry summers and cool winters, with snow more likely at higher elevations. Spring and autumn are generally the most comfortable seasons for outdoor visits. The nearby cameras in Ashland, Shasta Lake and Medford offer views of other parts of southern Oregon and northern California, which can help you compare conditions across the region.
