This live camera looks out over the beach at Dewey Beach, a small resort town on the Atlantic coast of Delaware. It is useful for checking the surf, sky and beach crowd before you head out. The player below streams directly from the source, and the weather and local time update alongside it.
Dewey Beach sits on a narrow barrier island between the Atlantic Ocean and Rehoboth Bay, at the southern end of the Delaware coast. It is known as a lively, unpretentious beach town with a long strip of sand, dune grass and a busy boardwalk-style main street. The low, flat landscape means the sea and sky dominate the view, and the light changes a great deal from morning to evening.
As a beach camera, the view is mainly the shoreline, the water and the people on the sand. Depending on the angle at any given moment, you may see wave conditions, the tide line and how crowded the beach is. Early mornings tend to be calm and quiet, while weekend afternoons in summer are the busiest. Clear weather gives the best visibility out to the horizon.
Summers are warm and humid, with afternoon temperatures often in the high 20s Celsius, and the water is at its warmest in July and August. Spring and autumn are milder and less crowded. If you are planning a visit, check the live weather block on this page for current conditions. The neighbouring town of Rehoboth Beach is only a few kilometres away and has its own cameras, including one on the Avenue.
