This live stream looks out over the Captiva Island waterfront on Florida's Gulf Coast. It is useful for checking how the water and sky look before you plan a day on the island or a trip across the causeway from Fort Myers.
Captiva is a narrow barrier island off the southwest coast of Florida, joined to neighbouring Sanibel by a short bridge. It is known for shelling beaches, sea grape and mangrove shorelines, and a relaxed pace with few high-rise buildings. The island sits at sea level, so the view is mostly water, sand and sky, with wind and tide shaping the scene throughout the day.
Depending on the view, you may see the Gulf waters changing colour with the tide, boats moving through the channel, and the light softening toward sunset, which is often the most popular time on this coast. Morning tends to be calmer, while afternoon storms can roll in quickly during the wet season. Check the live player and the weather block before you decide when to go.
Southwest Florida has a warm, humid subtropical climate. Winters are mild and dry and are the most comfortable season for visitors, while summers are hot with frequent afternoon showers and occasional tropical storms. Captiva is reached by car over the Sanibel Causeway. Nearby cameras include The Mucky Duck on Captiva, St James City, and two Sanibel beach views.
