Honolulu - Ala Wai Channel
🇺🇸 Hawaii · United States — Altitude 4 m
This live camera follows the Ala Wai Channel, the waterway that runs along the edge of Waikiki and Honolulu. It is a practical view for anyone wondering how the water and the city look right now. Use it alongside the local weather and time shown below the stream.
The Ala Wai Channel is a man-made waterway on the southern side of Oahu, built in the early twentieth century to drain the surrounding wetlands and make the land suitable for development. Today it borders the Waikiki neighborhood, the University of Hawaii campus area and many residential blocks, and it flows into the Ala Wai Canal toward the ocean. The surroundings are low, flat and close to sea level, shaped by a warm tropical climate and the trade winds.
The camera is titled after the channel, so the view centers on the water and the walkways and buildings along its banks. Depending on the angle at any moment, you may see calm water, passing boats, joggers and cyclists on the path, or the light changing over the city. Late afternoon and early evening tend to be the most pleasant hours to watch, when the air cools and the sky often takes on warm colors.
Honolulu has warm weather through most of the year, with daytime temperatures that stay fairly steady and a wetter period in winter. Trade winds keep the air moving, so conditions can feel mild even on warm days. Nearby webcams cover Waikiki and other parts of Honolulu, and the area is easy to reach by bus or on foot from the central city.
