This live camera looks out over Monarch, a small unincorporated community in central Montana at about 1,400 metres above sea level. It is a quick way to check conditions in the Little Belt Mountains before you plan a drive or a day outdoors. The page also gives you the local time and forecast alongside the stream.
Monarch sits in the Belt Creek valley on the eastern slopes of the Little Belt Mountains, a rugged range of forested ridges rising above the high plains of central Montana. The settlement grew up around mining and ranching, and its surroundings remain largely rural and quiet. Clear air, wide skies and sharp seasonal change define the character of the area more than any single landmark.
The stream is labelled as a nature view, so expect a scene shaped by open terrain, trees and weather rather than urban activity. Mountain light changes quickly, and the view is often most interesting in early morning and late afternoon when shadows lengthen across the hills. Snow, cloud cover and storms can transform the scene within an hour, so the live feed is especially useful in winter and spring.
Monarch has a continental mountain climate with cold, snowy winters and warm, dry summers, and nights stay cool even in July. Summer and early autumn are the most comfortable seasons for hiking and sightseeing in the Little Belt range. Great Falls, the nearest larger city, is roughly an hour's drive away and is the practical base for fuel, supplies and services.
