Dubois - Lava Mountain
🇺🇸 Wyoming · United States — Altitude 2400 m
This live stream looks out toward Lava Mountain, a peak near Dubois in western Wyoming. It is useful for checking how the mountain looks right now, whether clouds are sitting on the ridgeline, and how much snow is lingering at this elevation. Local weather and time are shown below the player.
Dubois sits in the Wind River Valley at roughly 2,000 metres, with the Absaroka and Wind River ranges rising around it. The town is known as a base for hunting, fishing and backcountry riding, and for its wide open sagebrush country. Lava Mountain is one of the peaks that define the skyline to the west of town, and the valley light changes noticeably from morning to evening.
Because the camera is aimed at a mountain rather than a street, the most useful moments are early morning and late afternoon, when low sun brings out the rock faces and any new snow. Clear mornings often give the sharpest view of the ridgelines, while afternoon thunderstorms can build quickly over the peaks in summer. Check the local weather panel to decide when the view is most likely to be clear.
Summers are short, dry and warm, while winters are long and cold, with heavy snow in the surrounding ranges. The best time to visit is late June through September for hiking and fishing. Nearby cameras include Col de DuNoir, the SnoKater view at Union Pass, and the Togwotee Mountain Lodge, which give a sense of conditions further along the same mountain roads.
