🇧🇷 Rio de Janeiro · Brazil — Altitude 10 m
This live camera overlooks Galeão–Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport, the main air gateway to Rio de Janeiro, on the northern edge of the city. Aviation fans and anyone meeting a flight can follow the traffic on the apron and runways in real time, with the stream in HD.
Galeão sits on Governador Island in the Guanabara Bay, a low, flat area close to the sea and some 10 metres above sea level. It is Brazil's busiest international airport and handles most long-haul arrivals to Rio. The surroundings are a mix of wetlands, mangroves and industrial and port areas, which gives the airfield an open, coastal character quite different from the mountains and beaches of the city centre.
The camera is aimed at the airport area, so you may see aircraft taxiing, taking off and landing, and ground vehicles moving around the terminals. Activity tends to be busiest during the daytime and in the early evening, when many international flights arrive. Clear weather makes the runways and approach paths easier to follow, while haze or rain can reduce visibility on the stream.
Rio has a tropical climate with warm, humid summers and milder, drier winters, so the best time to visit is generally from April to June or from August to October. The airport is about 15 km from the city centre, and the car or taxi trip can take a while in heavy traffic. Other VizCams views in the area include Cristo Redentor, Santos Dumont Airport and Sugarloaf.
