This live feed looks out over Tamarindo, a surf town on the Pacific coast of Guanacaste. Open it to check conditions in real time before heading to the beach or planning a day on the water.
Tamarindo sits on the northwest coast of Costa Rica in the province of Guanacaste, a region known for its dry season, wide sandy beaches and warm Pacific water. The town grew from a fishing village into a well-known base for surfing, and its streets mix small hotels, restaurants and surf schools. The surrounding landscape includes tropical dry forest and estuaries that attract a wide range of birdlife.
The stream is tied to the Tamarindo location, so the most useful times to watch are early morning, when the water is often calmer, and late afternoon, when the light softens over the bay. Wave size and beach crowds change with the tide and the season, so you may notice quite different conditions from one hour to the next. Check the live view before deciding when to go down to the sand.
Guanacaste has a clear dry season from roughly December to April, which is the most popular time to visit, while the green season brings afternoon showers and lush scenery. Tamarindo is reached by road from Liberia, and the airport there is the usual gateway. Nearby, the Cartago camera on this site shows a very different part of the country in the Central Valley.
