Chiemsee - Herrenchiemsee
🇩🇪 Bavaria · Germany — Altitude 518 m
This live camera looks out over Chiemsee, the largest lake in Bavaria, toward the island of Herrenchiemsee. It is useful for checking conditions on the water before a trip or simply for a quiet view of the lake's changing light.
Chiemsee sits in the Chiemgau region at the foot of the Bavarian Alps, roughly 518 metres above sea level. It is often called the Bavarian Sea because of its size. Herrenchiemsee, the larger of its islands, is known for the palace King Ludwig II built there in the nineteenth century, and the lake is a popular base for sailing, swimming and walks along its shore.
The camera is most rewarding in the morning, when the water is often calm and mist may lift from the surface, and in the late afternoon when the low sun colours the lake. Depending on the view, you may see boats, the shoreline and the distant Alpine ridges. Clear days in autumn and winter tend to give the sharpest outlines, while summer brings more activity on the water.
The area has a fairly mild Alpine climate, with warm summers and cold, sometimes snowy winters. Spring and early autumn are good times to visit. Boats cross from the mainland to Herrenchiemsee in season. Nearby live views include the Prien boat-traffic camera, about 2 km away, and the Chieming camera, about 10 km away.
