Funtenseetauern - Parc national de Berchtesgaden - vue sur le Königssee vers le nord
🇩🇪 Bavaria · Germany — Altitude 2520 m
This camera looks north from the Funtenseetauern area of Berchtesgaden National Park over the Königssee, one of Germany's most photographed alpine lakes. It is a useful window for judging mountain conditions, cloud cover and visibility before planning a visit to the Berchtesgaden Alps.
Funtenseetauern is a high pass in the Berchtesgaden Alps, at about 2520 metres above sea level, on the edge of the national park. The Königssee lies in a deep glacial valley below the steep limestone walls, and the park is known for its strict protection of wildlife and its clear, cold water. The landscape is stark and open, with bare rock, alpine meadows and dramatic drops.
The view depends on the weather, so you may see lake surfaces in sunshine, mist moving along the valley floor or cloud sitting on the peaks. Mornings often bring the clearest air, while afternoon clouds can build quickly in summer. Winter views may show snow on the surrounding ridges, and the changing light across the rock faces is worth watching at dawn and dusk.
The Berchtesgaden region has cool summers and cold, snowy winters, and conditions at high altitude can change within minutes. Summer and early autumn are the usual seasons for hiking, while winter suits experienced walkers with proper equipment. Nearby cameras on the Jenner and at the Funtensee show other parts of the same mountain range and help you compare conditions.
