This live camera looks out over Naxos, the largest island of the Cyclades in the Aegean Sea. It is a useful way to check how the town and harbour look right now before planning a trip or simply following the island from afar. The page also shows local time and the current weather alongside the stream.
Naxos is the largest and greenest of the Cyclades, with mountains rising in the centre and fertile valleys producing olives, citrus and potatoes. The island is known for its marble, which was used in ancient temples and is still visible in old doorways and villages, and for its long tradition of local hospitality. Its capital, Chora, sits on the west coast with whitewashed houses and a Venetian castle above the harbour.
Depending on the view, you may see boats coming and going, the waterfront and the activity around the harbour. The Aegean light is strongest in the morning and late afternoon, and the sea can change from calm blue to choppy within hours when the meltemi wind blows, mostly in summer. Check the stream in the early evening, when ferries and fishing boats often return to port.
Naxos has hot, dry summers and mild, wetter winters, so the best time to visit is generally late spring or early autumn. Ferries connect the island with Piraeus and other Cyclades, and the nearby islands of Paros and Mykonos can be reached by boat in less than an hour. Local buses and rented cars make it easy to reach beaches on the east and south coasts.
