This live camera looks over Aoste, the capital of the Aosta Valley in northwest Italy. Use it to check how the town and surrounding mountains look right now, before planning a walk or a drive into the valley. The page also shows local time and the weather forecast for Aoste.
Aoste sits at about 600 metres in a wide valley ringed by some of the highest peaks in the Alps, including Mont Blanc to the west. It is a compact, historic town with Roman roots, known for its Roman arch and theatre remains, its medieval streets and its role as a base for mountain sports. The surrounding landscape changes quickly from vineyards and orchards on the valley floor to forests and high pastures.
Because this is a town-and-valley view, the most interesting moments are usually clear mornings, when the mountain outlines are sharp, and late afternoon, when the light warms the slopes. Cloud often gathers around the peaks in summer afternoons, so the view can change within an hour. Winter brings snow to the higher ground, and the valley may look very different from one day to the next depending on the weather.
Aoste has a mild summer and a cold, snowy winter, and the best time to visit for hiking is from June to September. The town is easy to explore on foot, and buses and trains connect it with other valley towns. Nearby cameras in Gressan, a few kilometres away, show other slopes and villages of the valley and are worth checking if you want a wider picture of conditions.
