Kronplatz - Piz de Plaies
🇮🇹 Trentino-South Tyrol · Italy — Altitude 1615 m
This live camera looks out over Kronplatz, the well-known mountain above Bruneck in the Dolomites. The view is taken from the Piz de Plaies area at about 1,615 metres, so the picture changes quickly with cloud, snow and light. Check it before you plan a ski day, a hike or a drive up the valley.
Kronplatz rises above the Pustertal valley in South Tyrol, one of the few places in Italy where German and Italian culture meet openly. It is a broad, rounded peak with wide meadows and forest below, and it is a major ski area in winter. The Dolomites around it are known for their pale rock faces and sharp ridges, and the region is also famous for its food, with farmhouse cheese and rye bread. Its landscape changes a great deal from valley floor to summit.
The image is taken from the mountain itself, so it is best suited to following the sky, cloud movement and snow cover rather than individual people. The light is most dramatic at sunrise and in the late afternoon, when the peaks take on warm colours. Clear mornings after fresh snowfall are often the most striking. In summer, you may see cloud building over the ridges in the afternoon, which is a useful sign for hikers planning their route.
Kronplatz has a mountain climate, so temperatures can be far colder at the top than in the valley, even on sunny days. Winter brings reliable snow for skiing, while summer is pleasant for walking and cycling. Spring and autumn can be quieter, with changeable weather. Nearby cameras include La Val, about 6 km away, and two Bruneck views on the same mountain, which help you compare conditions across the area.
