This live camera looks out over Flåm, a small village at the head of the Aurlandsfjord, a branch of the Sognefjord. It is useful if you want to check conditions on the fjord before travelling, or simply watch the water and weather change through the day.
Flåm sits at sea level where the Aurlandsfjord narrows between steep mountain walls. It is best known as the starting point of the Flåm Railway, one of the most scenic rail lines in Europe, and as a stop for cruise ships on the Sognefjord. The surrounding landscape is dominated by waterfalls, forested slopes and high plateaus that can hold snow well into spring.
The view centres on the village and the water, so the main things to follow are light on the fjord, cloud moving over the slopes and the arrival of boats. Mornings and evenings tend to be the most atmospheric, especially when mist sits in the valley. Clear days show the mountains most sharply, while overcast weather often softens the scene into grey and silver tones.
Flåm has a mild but wet maritime climate for Norway, with rain possible in any season and cooler conditions at higher altitudes. Summer is the busiest period for visitors. Nearby camera locations include Gudvangen, about 15 km away on the same fjord, and Voss, around 45 km off, which are useful for comparing conditions along the route.
