This live stream looks out over Chicama beach in La Libertad on Peru's northern Pacific coast. It is a practical way to check the sea and sky before deciding whether to head down to the shore. The page also shows local time and the weather for the area.
La Libertad is the coastal region around Trujillo, the main city of northern Peru, and it sits on the desert shoreline where the Andes meet the Pacific. Chicama is best known among surfers for one of the longest left-hand waves in the world, which breaks along a long stretch of sand. The landscape is dry and open, with low cliffs, sand dunes and fishing communities along the water.
Depending on the view, you may see the swell lining up across the bay, surfers paddling out and the changing light over the water. Mornings are often calmer and clearer, while the coastal haze common in this region can soften the horizon at other times. Watching during daylight hours gives the most useful picture of wave and beach conditions.
The coast stays mild through most of the year, with cool, often overcast conditions in the austral winter and warmer, sunnier weather from late summer into autumn. Trujillo has the nearest airport and bus connections, and the beach is a short drive from town. Nearby on VizCams are the Pacasmayo beach camera about 36 km north and the Huanchaco beach camera near Trujillo.
