This live camera looks out over Horný Smokovec, a mountain village in the High Tatras of northern Slovakia. It is a good way to check how the peaks look before you travel or to follow conditions in one of the region's best-known resort areas.
Horný Smokovec sits in the Prešov Region at the foot of the High Tatras, the highest mountain range in the Carpathians. It grew up as a spa and holiday settlement in the nineteenth century, and its wooden villas and tree-lined streets still reflect that history. The surrounding forests and granite summits give the valley a strong alpine character throughout the year.
The view is most rewarding on clear mornings, when the peaks catch early light, and in winter when snow settles on the slopes. Mountain weather can change quickly, so cloud and mist often move across the ridges within an hour. Watching during the day lets you judge visibility and snow cover before deciding on a walk or a ski day.
Winters are cold and snowy, making the area popular for skiing, while summers are mild and suited to hiking. Late spring and early autumn can be quieter and often offer stable weather. The Tatras are well connected by road and rail, and the nearby cameras at Skalnaté pleso, Tatranská Lomnica and Ždiar show other parts of the range.
