Franschhoek - Vallée de Franschhoek, Matopi
🇿🇦 Western Cape · South Africa — Altitude 250 m
This live camera looks out over the Franschhoek valley, a wine-growing area about an hour from Cape Town. Watch the stream to get a sense of the light, the vineyards and the weather before you plan a day in the winelands.
Franschhoek sits in a narrow valley framed by the Franschhoek and Groot Drakenstein mountains, roughly 250 metres above sea level. The town grew out of French Huguenot settlement in the late 1600s, and that heritage still shows in its name, its architecture and its restaurants. Vineyards, orchards and mountain slopes give the valley its character, and it is widely regarded as one of South Africa's leading wine destinations.
The camera is a nature view, so what you see depends on the angle and the season. Morning light often picks out the mountain ridges, while late afternoon brings warm tones across the vines. Cloud and mist can roll down the valley in winter, and the green of spring and early summer is usually most striking. Check the live weather block on this page before you watch, since conditions can change quickly in the mountains.
The region has a Mediterranean climate: wet, mild winters and warm, dry summers. The most pleasant months for visiting are generally autumn and spring. Stellenbosch and Paarl, both with cameras listed nearby, are a short drive away, and Cape Town is roughly an hour by road. Plan your route with the map on this page.
