This live camera looks out over Peniscola, a whitewashed town on a rocky peninsula projecting into the Mediterranean in the Valencian Community. Use it to check conditions on the coast before a visit or simply to watch the sea and sky change through the day.
Peniscola sits on a small peninsula on the Costa del Azahar, joined to the mainland by a narrow isthmus. Its old town rises above the harbour, crowned by a medieval castle built by the Knights Templar and later home to the antipope Benedict XIII. The surrounding landscape mixes pine-covered dunes, rocky shore and long sandy beaches, giving the town a calm, distinctly Mediterranean character.
The view is most rewarding in the morning, when light falls across the water and the old town, and again at sunset, when the castle and walls turn golden. Depending on the angle, you may see boats moving in and out, people on the promenade and beach, and how quickly weather fronts roll in from the sea. Clear days give the best visibility of the coastline.
Peniscola enjoys mild winters and warm, sunny summers, with the sea breeze easing the heat in the afternoons. Late spring and early autumn are often the most pleasant times to visit, when the beaches are quieter. Nearby cameras cover Vinaros, Alcossebre and Torreblanca along the same coast, useful for comparing conditions up and down the shoreline.
