🇨🇭 Bern · Switzerland — Altitude 1170 m
This live camera looks over Kandersteg, a small village in the Bernese Oberland at about 1170 metres above sea level. It is useful if you want to see current mountain conditions before planning a walk, a ride or a drive up the valley. The live player, local time and forecast are all on this page.
Kandersteg sits in the Kander valley, a short distance from the Lötschberg rail tunnel that links the Bernese Oberland with the Valais. The village is known as a gateway to the Blue Lake, the Oeschinensee, and to the surrounding limestone peaks. Its character is quiet and alpine, with wooden chalets, meadows and forest reaching up the valley sides.
The camera is placed at the Nordic Centre area, so its view is most useful for checking the valley floor and the sky above the village. Depending on the angle, you may see changing cloud over the peaks, snow cover in winter or green meadows in summer. Early mornings and clear days tend to give the sharpest view of the mountains around the village.
Kandersteg has a mountain climate with cool summers and snowy winters. Summer is generally best for hiking, while winter brings cross-country skiing and sledging. Nearby cameras show a summer luge track, a winter luge track, the Oeschinensee mountain hotel and the Sunnbüel area, which are useful for comparing conditions around the valley.
