Wengen - Station aval
🇨🇭 Bern · Switzerland — Altitude 1290 m
This camera looks out from the lower station in Wengen, a car-free village high above the Lauterbrunnen valley in the Bernese Oberland. It is a practical way to see the mountain conditions and the approach to the village before you travel. The live player is joined by local time and the current weather for Wengen.
Wengen sits on a sunny terrace at about 1,290 metres, reached by cog railway from Lauterbrunnen. Cars are not allowed in the village, so everything moves on foot, by electric vehicle or by train. The surrounding peaks, including the Jungfrau massif, shape the valley and the light that falls on the houses. The village is known as a base for winter sports and for long walks above the valley floor.
The view is tied to the station area, so the most useful hours are when trains arrive and depart and when the light is clear. Mornings often bring calm air and sharper outlines on the slopes, while late afternoon can soften the scene. Snow cover and cloud level change the picture quickly in this part of the Alps, so the view can look very different from one visit to the next.
Summer is generally the easiest season for walking, and winter is busy with skiing and snowshoeing. Expect cool evenings even in summer because of the altitude. Nearby on VizCams you can open the Wengen hotel camera a kilometre away, or the Männlichen cameras in Grindelwald and the Männlichen cable car area, which offer wider mountain panoramas.
