Wengen - Männlichen
Bern, Switzerland — 4.2 km
🇨🇭 Bern · Switzerland — Altitude 1967 m
This live camera looks out from the Schynige Platte area above Wilderswil, at about 1967 metres in the Bernese Oberland. It is a useful check before a mountain walk, a train ride up to the viewpoint, or simply a look at how the Alpine weather is moving over the valley.
Wilderswil sits at the foot of the Jungfrau region in the canton of Bern, between the Lütschine valley and the lakes of Thun and Brienz. Schynige Platte is one of the classic high viewpoints of the Bernese Oberland, reached by a historic cog railway that climbs from the village. The landscape is typical of the Alps: steep meadows, scattered chalets, rock faces and high peaks that often hold snow well into spring.
The camera is most rewarding in clear weather, when the sky is open and the peaks stand out in full detail. Morning often brings the cleanest air before clouds build over the ridges, while late afternoon light can warm the rock faces. Cloud can roll in quickly in the mountains, so a view that is grey at one moment may clear within an hour. Watching the changes is part of the appeal, especially in autumn and winter when snow settles on the higher slopes.
Summer is the main season for walking and the railway, usually from late spring to early autumn, while winter suits those who want snow and quieter trails. Weather at this altitude is cooler and more variable than in Interlaken, so bring warm layers even in summer. Nearby on VizCams you can also find the Wengen and Männlichen cameras, a few kilometres away across the valley, which show different angles of the same mountain country.
