Disentis - Caischavedra
🇨🇭 Graubünden · Switzerland — Altitude 1870 m
This camera looks out over Disentis from the Caischavedra area in the Surselva, the upper Rhine valley of Graubünden. It is useful for judging current mountain conditions and cloud cover before planning a walk or a drive over the Oberalp Pass. The live player is embedded from the source, and the weather and time blocks below update for the valley.
Disentis lies at about 1,870 metres in the Surselva, where the Rhine is still a young mountain river. The village is known for its Benedictine abbey, founded in the early eighth century, which dominates the valley floor. Surrounding peaks rise steeply on both sides, and the landscape changes quickly with altitude, from larch meadows to rocky ridges. The local language is Romansh alongside German, which gives the area a distinctive character.
The view is of a mountain setting, so the most rewarding moments are often early morning, when valley fog may lift, and late afternoon, when the slopes take on warm light. Cloud formation over the peaks is common in summer and can change within minutes. Depending on the view, you may see hikers, cable traffic, or snow cover in winter. Check the live picture before deciding whether a clear window is likely.
Disentis is reachable by the Rhaetian Railway, and the valley is a common stop on routes across the Alps. Summers are mild and winters are cold with significant snow, so conditions at this altitude differ from the lowlands. Other cameras nearby include Sedrun - Gendusas, Sedrun - Cuolm Da Vi and the Disentis monastery view, which together show different parts of the same valley.
