🇨🇭 Graubünden · Switzerland
This camera looks over Davos Platz, the main village of the Swiss alpine resort in the canton of Graubünden, toward the Jakobshorn mountain. It is a useful way to judge whether the valley is clear, snowy or cloudy before you travel.
Davos sits in a high valley in the eastern Alps, among some of the highest mountains in the region. It is best known as a winter sports destination and as the host of the World Economic Forum's annual meeting. The town is long and narrow, set along the Landwasser river, with the mountains rising steeply on both sides. Its alpine air and wide open terrain give it a distinct atmosphere in every season.
The stream is most useful in the morning, when the sun reaches the slopes and cloud or fog in the valley becomes visible. Clear days show the mountain outline clearly, while overcast or snowy conditions change the look of the streets and rooftops quickly. Watching in late afternoon can also reveal how the light moves across the Jakobshorn. Conditions depend on the weather, so the picture can vary a great deal from one hour to the next.
Davos has a cold, snowy winter and a mild, green summer, and many visitors come for skiing, hiking and cycling. Snow usually lies from around December to March, while summer is ideal for walks in the surrounding valleys. Nearby cameras show the Langlaufzentrum in Davos I, the Tourismus- und Sportzentrum in Davos Platz, the Snowfarming area in Davos I and Jatzmeder in Davos Glaris, which give a wider view of the valley.
