Bregaglia is an Alpine valley in south-eastern Switzerland, running from the Maloja Pass down towards Italy. It is known for granite peaks, larch and spruce forests, and the sculptural Bregaglia mountain group that draws climbers and hikers. The valley is Italian-speaking in its lower villages and German-speaking higher up, which gives the area a mixed cultural character. The air is clear and the light changes quickly as clouds move over the ridges.
The title points to a mountain setting, so the view most likely takes in slopes, ridgelines and sky rather than settlements. Depending on the angle, you may see changing snow cover, cloud banks forming in the afternoon, or the first sun on the peaks in the morning. Clear mornings are usually the most rewarding time to watch, while summer afternoons often bring thunderstorms that build quickly over the high terrain.
Summer, from June to September, is the main season for hiking, while winter brings ski touring and cross-country skiing on the Engadine trails. Expect cool nights at this altitude even in July. Nearby on VizCams you can compare the Albigna view in the same valley, and the Corvatsch and Murtèl cameras around Silvaplana, which show the high Engadine lakes and peaks from a different angle.
