This live camera looks out over Zermatt from the Hirli area, high above the village in the Valais Alps. It is a good way to check whether the Matterhorn region is clear before you plan a walk or a train ride. The page also shows local time and the weather forecast for the valley.
Zermatt is a car-free village in the canton of Valais, set in a deep glacial valley at the foot of the Matterhorn. It is known for its alpine character, its chalet architecture and its role as a gateway to skiing and high-mountain hiking. The surrounding peaks, glaciers and larch forests give the village a striking, dramatic atmosphere that changes quickly with the weather.
Depending on the view and conditions, you may see the upper village, the surrounding ridges and the sky above the peaks. Clear mornings tend to show the sharpest outlines of the mountains, while afternoon clouds often build over the ridges. Winter views can show snow cover on the slopes, and summer views usually show greener terrain and hikers on the trails.
Zermatt is reached by train from Visp, and the village is entirely car-free, so electric taxis and walking are the main ways to get around. Summer is popular for hiking, while winter is the main season for skiing. Nearby cameras on this site include Lac Noir, Trockener Steg, Riffelalp and Riffelberg, which are useful for comparing conditions at different heights.
